This list could be very lengthy, so we have narrowed it down to three of the most important factors when choosing a contractor.
1.) Having a license in contracting means that you have completed all requirements for the state licensing board as well as the continuing education components. This means that this is not a fly by night individual but one who is vested in the field of contracting and in protecting his/her clients.
2.) Experience, experience, experience. Should we say it again… EXPERIENCE! With all fields of occupations in our world, we all know that the longer you are in a field the more knowledge and hands on experience you have learned. You are more apt to think of solutions more quickly, and have a variety of resources available for whatever your day holds.
3.) Have a conversation or meet the contractor you are choosing to hire. You can learn a lot about an individual by having a conversation with them either on the phone or in person. After all, this is the person that you will be working with closely over the next few days to few months depending on the scope and size of your project. You need to know their character, know their work ethic, and know their workmanship. You can gain a lot of insight by speaking to someone. We suggest skipping the texts and doing the “old school” conversation before hiring a contractor for your next home renovation project.
